Better location for a crossing on Bath street?

A lot of people cross here to go between palmer street and vicarage street but there is no safe crossing and visibility of oncoming traffic is poor. There is a need for a safe crossing point here, realistically people are not going to walk up the very steep hill to the traffic lights.

The 20mph limit is no good without proper traffic calming measures - these need to be put in place. It is hard to believe that no such measures were put in place when the 20mph limit was decided upon for the town centre. Even Alexandra road has speed tables.

I agree with everything said here already. I make this crossing twice a day and often you are waiting a while for gap in traffic and visibility is poor coming from both directions. The crossing is too far up the hill and in the wrong direction. A better crossing or island here would also improve access to palmer street.

The route to the pelican crossing further up Bath Street is significantly uphill and also requires any pedestrian traffic crossing from one side of Bath Street to the other to make a significant deviation to reach. Despite double yellow lines, vehicles are frequently parked in front of the shops on the west side of Bath Street from St John's church to Eagle Lane and beyond. A substantive pedestrian island in the middle of the road between Palmer Street and Eagle Lane would significantly aid safe crossing and could also reduce congestion on this part of Bath Street.
