Fall risk

Sue Everett•3 weeks ago The paving slabs here are lethal in freezing weather. I broke my wrist in a fall here due to not seeing black ice on the slabs, and know of another person who broke a leg here in a similar fall. I suspect there may have been other casualties here. Currently there are handrails next to the steps but not along where the sloping paving slabs are between the steps. Adding a handrail between the flights of steps would be helpful and I would definitely use them every time I walk down here (usually a couple of times a week). I am actually quite a fit and mobile person but always use the handrail beside the steps themselves.

Car parking

Sue Everett•1 month ago Double yellow lines are needed to prevent cars parking along Palmer street, and the pavement widened. Pedestrians usually have to walk in the road and it is very narrow.

Crossing point, public footpath from Styles Hill

Sue Everett•1 month ago This is one of a number of points where public footpaths cross the bypass. There are also lanes used by people on bikes elsewhere. It is getting increasingly challenging crossing the bypass. Further speed restriction is needed, ideally to 40mph. There needs to be speed cameras plus warning signs with flashing lights throughout the bypass warning of cyclists and pedestrians crossing.

Footway and parking area adjacent to Coop

Sue Everett•1 month ago There needs to be a barrier between the footway and the Coop parking area in the vicinity of the bollards and entrance as on several occasions I have witnessed near accidents here with cars accessing that area of the parking area by driving on the WRONG side of the road (once when I was crossing) and another time when cyclists were coming through and a car reversed nearly into their path. A simple metal barrier or bollards would do the trick. There is plenty of car parking space away from the door to the shop.

Cycle stands needed

Sue Everett•1 month ago There is no cycle parking provision outside B&M. Secure, pref. covered cycle stands are needed.

Access to cyclepath

Sue Everett•1 month ago This access is dangerous to use because it is so poorly designed and built with a drop kerb that is not flush with the road. For this reason I now mostly use the road access towards Tucker Close to access the cycle bridge across the river. I suggest that small piece of cycleway is scrapped and the Tucker Close route signed as the official cycle route.

Secure cycle parking required

Sue Everett•1 month ago The cycle parking at Lidls is covered but the stands are insecure and inadequate and are often obscured by bags of compost etc, although this year has been notably not so bad as in previous years. Better quality and more secure stands are needed - ideally take out a car parking space or two and build a covered area with best quality stands.

Sue Everett•1 month ago The cycle parking here is substandard provision as the structures used are insecure and easily cut through with bolt croppers. State of the art secure stands are needed. Ideally a covered area with secure stands within the car park areas.

Sue Everett•1 month ago When the Range set up shop, the Sheffield cycle stands outside Halfords were removed!! This was probably in contravention to a planning condition? Whoever owns this business park should be required to install state of the art secure cycle parking, ideally a covered area with Sheffield type stands and plenty of them. There are currently NO cycle stands for this entire site.

20mph extention to Garston Roundabout

Sue Everett•1 month ago Extend the 20mph speed limit to the roundabout at Garston. Put in traffic calming measures. Currently this is only operative at school open/closing times. And there are no traffic calming measures.

Cycle stands needed

Sue Everett•1 month ago Currently there are no cycle stands in the Westway. One key destination is the veg shop, meaning heavy loads to carry so nearby cycle parking would be welcome in this location.

Safer crossing point, traffic calming

Sue Everett•1 month ago Welshmill Lane needs to be 20mph, with traffic calming and safer crossing points such as a raised table. At this point carers and residents from the adjacent care home need to cross with buggies and wheelchairs (I have negotiated this numerous times with various elderly relatives) and there are also cycle/footways crossing either side of the river that are frequently used.
