Just 136 metres of cycle path along the A3090 here to Windsbatch Lane could be a game-changer

Tristan Coombe•1 month ago Windsbatch Lane could provide a viable alternative route to Frome for cycling and pedestrian residents of Beckington and Rode and use of the available wide verge here to allow a cyclepath without downgrading the road in anyway for motor traffic could even make it safe for families.

Exceptionally dangerous stretch of road for cyclists

Tristan Coombe•1 month ago The road is narrow, bendy, fast and has a poor surface likely to lead to cycling accidents amidst high-speed traffic. The surface is particularly poor near the change of speed limit signs and near recent roadworks.

A crossing here could allow cycle access between Rode, Beckington and Frome almost without hills.

Tristan Coombe•1 month ago Cycling between Rode and Beckington, and Frome involves hills, with the particularly dangerous one at Oldford. A crossing here and a short, reinstated footpath to reconnect the Old Warminster Road, coupled with some measure for pedestrians and cyclists at the White Row roundabout, would make cycle travel possible for many more people between these two villages and Frome, via Limerick Lane. Alternatively, a pedestrian bridge over the B3090 reconnecting Pot Lane and Berkley Lane (Beckington) would open open up a viable cycle route in a single act.
