Wellbeing

From "River Frome"

Go to the project

Scientific research supports what many of us already feel - that being outside in nature, and being near flowing water, has a positive impact on our mental wellbeing, helping us feel less stressed. Riverside walking and cycling routes are also popular choices for getting physical exercise.

Share in the comments how the River Frome helps with your wellbeing, or let us know what's stopping you from being able to share the benefits of this natural resource. How can we connect people more with the river and make it more accessible so that everyone can benefit?

Few aspects of the river currently exploit it's true potential, yet one glimpse of an otter, a kingfisher or a beaver provides a spark of hope. The small stretch of fast-moving 'rapids' between the eastern railway bridge and Rodden Meadow the merest glimmer of what might be. In general, parts of the river have suffered dreadfully from an industrial past that helped shape the town. It attracts (and retains) litter, graffiti and much of it's path is often muddy, disconnected and many stretches are difficult to access. The outcry over the loss of the ramp near Henley Way and the popularity of the Missing Link's paved link from Waylands to Spring Gardens is indicative of the desire for good access to be made available for all and the importance of this potential thoroughfare. Much of Frome's industry may be consigned to the past, but the river is still impacted by it, it is time we looked more to it's future.
