Pedestrian crossing needed across A36 White Row Farm roundabout

From "Interactive map: add your concerns and ideas"

Go to the project

There is an informal uncontrolled 'pedestrian crossing point' for pedestrians to get across the A36 on the northern arms of the White Row Farm roundabout, but it is not safe to cross. There is no way to stop traffic to allow pedestrians to cross, the roads all have a national speed limit (60/70mph) and pedestrians have to dodge vehicles coming round the roundabout and approaching the roundabout at speed. The White Row farm shop and takeaway is a current destination, and the planning application for extra facilities will increase that. The A36 here has over 35,000 vehicles a day. Government guidance on Critical safety issues for walking, wheeling and cycling, identifies uncontrolled crossings at busy roundabouts as a critical safety issue. Whenever this roundabout is upgraded to accommodate more traffic from the SGC and other developments, it needs to include a safe controlled pedestrian crossing to allow people to walk between Beckington and White Row Farm.
