There is apparently a public footpath across the A36 at this point, but the fencing, together with the difficulty of actually crossing such a busy stretch of fast, straight road (with 60 mph limit) mean that pedestrians cannot reasonably use this footpath between Rode and Beckington. There are no safe pedestrian crossings between Rode and Beckington, effectively cutting off the two villages for walkers.
